Personalize a reading in Composer

Change theme, typography, measure, figures and source details as a reversible private view.

01

Use the eleven Composer tools

Tools collects Listen, Edit, Delete items, Translate, Summarize, Print, Autoscroll, Settings, Bookmark, Fullscreen and Close in one keyboard-accessible website surface. Listen, Translate, Autoscroll and Settings focus their exact owned controls; Edit and Delete items reuse the visible private-overlay modes; Summarize selects complete source sentences locally without sending publication text to Ratdolt or an AI provider; Print invokes the browser for the current personal Composer document. Research-report and citation-bibliography print actions expose only their named output and clear that intent after every print, so a later Command/Ctrl+P cannot repeat stale research.

Bookmark opens the real credit-free Save for later form with this source URL and recovered title already visible, but does not submit, fetch or spend a publication credit. If this source already owns a Library record, Bookmark opens that record instead. Fullscreen enters the browser Fullscreen API only after your click and reports an unavailable or declined capability without pretending success.

  1. Open a source in Composer and choose Tools.
  2. Choose an action; panel actions move focus to their exact control.
  3. Use Reader when you need the immutable publication or canonical PDF rather than this personal view.
02

Find every personal setting

Style begins with one six-destination settings map. Typography, Display, Themes and Custom CSS focus their exact Composer groups; Reading ruler switches to Reading; Auto-run rules opens its anchored Account owner. The map changes only this derived view or explicit defaults for future Composer documents.

  1. Open a source in Composer and choose Style.
  2. Choose one setting family from the map; keyboard focus follows the destination.
  3. Use Auto-run rules only when submitted URLs should route differently inside Ratdolt.
03

Appearance belongs in Composer

Choose Paper, Sepia, Night, Contrast or custom paper/text/link colours. Every preset clears the 4.5:1 WCAG AA ratio for normal text and links. Custom shows both ratios live and warns when either falls below AA without blocking a deliberate personal choice.

Choose among 20 named bundled, system and device-local font stacks—or enter any installed font name—then tune size, leading, tracking and line measure without changing Reader or the source snapshot. Source Serif, IBM Plex Sans, Lexend and OpenDyslexic are self-hosted. Atkinson Hyperlegible, Lexie Readable, Sassoon Primary and arbitrary safely named fonts stay on the device; unavailable faces fall back without a network request and no font file is uploaded.

  1. Open a source in Composer.
  2. Use Style for themes and typography; review both live contrast ratios after choosing Custom.
  3. Use the explicit defaults action only when this setup should begin future readings.

Display and custom CSS

Toggle figures, author, reading time, source URL, outline and the document provenance footer independently. The outline lists recovered chapters, keeps one current location marked, saves its visibility choice and moves into the Style panel on narrow screens. Hiding the footer never removes the fixed original-source action. Scoped custom CSS previews safe rules live and the workspace saves automatically; global selectors, imports, remote URLs, executable values and fixed-position declarations are removed before rendering.
