Keep selected articles and PDFs offline

Use public cacheable shells while private pages, sessions and APIs remain outside the service worker.

Articles

Add a one-file inert edition to the device shelf only after consent. Current content-addressed account responses carry an RFC 9530 SHA-256 digest that the browser verifies before IndexedDB; imports are fingerprinted locally. It reopens inside a sandbox with scripts and forms disabled and can be downloaded or removed independently.

Keeping identical bytes is idempotent. A same-version replacement must retain the same declared resource set and embed strictly more of it. Missing bytes or a failed digest remain visible for recovery, while a quota failure leaves the prior committed copy intact.

  1. Open a permanent edition and choose Keep on this device.
  2. Use the Offline shelf to confirm its digest, storage state and local preview.
  3. If recovery is shown, keep the same account edition again or import the downloaded HTML backup.

PDF readiness

The offline PDF shell warms the bundled PDF.js module, worker and annotated-export runtime. Existing local bytes and annotations can then reopen after the server disappears.
